About us

About Concrete Surface Solutions, a London, Ontario Concrete Company

Concrete Surface Solutions is a concrete company based in south London, Ontario, placing and finishing concrete for homeowners, property managers, builders and business owners. Our crews bring more than 20 years of hands-on flatwork, forming and repair experience to every pour.

Across 950+ completed jobs, we have seen exactly how concrete fails in this region: clay soils that shift, road salt carried in on tires, and winters that swing above and below freezing week after week. Everything on this page is about how we build around those conditions and how we run a job on your property.

Who we are

Who We Are and the Work We Take On

We are a London-based concrete contractor that handles residential, commercial and repair work, from a single set of front steps to an industrial floor slab. The same team quotes the job, pours it and stands behind it afterward.

Homeowners make up a large share of our calendar. Our residential concrete services cover driveways, patios and pool decks, steps and walkways, garage floors and decorative finishes such as stamped and exposed aggregate.

For plazas, multi-unit buildings and light-industrial owners, our commercial concrete contractor services include sidewalks, barrier curbs, parking areas and warehouse slabs. Commercial jobs are scheduled around tenants, deliveries and operating hours.

The third part of our work is fixing slabs that are already in place. That includes concrete repair and resurfacing, lifting sunken sections and protecting sound concrete with a penetrating sealer.

Crew and equipment

Our Crew, Equipment and Capacity

We size every crew to the pour rather than sending the same headcount to every job. A walkway or step job gets a compact crew of experienced finishers, while a large driveway or commercial slab gets extra hands at the screed and the trowel so the concrete is finished at the right moment, not after it has started to set.

The crew that excavates your site is the crew that places and finishes it. Keeping one team from base prep to joint cutting means nobody inherits a sub-base they did not compact.

Exterior pours run from spring through late fall, with cold-weather measures when temperatures drop. Interior work such as garage floors, basement slabs and floor coatings continues through winter because the space can be heated.

Ask about current lead times when you request a quote. Spring and early summer book up first.

Base and compaction

Plate compactors and a rotating laser level let us build 150 to 200 mm (6 to 8 in.) of compacted Granular A to grade, in lifts, before any forms go in.

Placing and finishing

Bull floats, edgers, groovers and power trowels for interior slabs. Concrete pump trucks are booked when the truck cannot reach the forms.

Joint cutting and curing

Walk-behind saws cut control joints to one quarter of the slab depth as soon as the slab can carry them, then a curing compound or wet cure protects early strength.

Credentials

Credentials and Training

Our credentials are the kind you can verify yourself: insurance you can request in writing, WSIB coverage you can look up, and mix specifications printed on every quote. We would rather hand you proof than a badge.

Below is what we build to, how testing works on our jobs, and the documents to ask us for before you sign.

Training and Testing Standards Our Finishers Work To

Every exterior mix we order meets CSA A23.1 Class C-2: 32 MPa, 5 to 8% air entrainment, maximum 0.45 water-to-cementing-materials ratio, the exposure class set out in CSA A23.1 and A23.2 for concrete exposed to freezing and de-icing salts. Footings and garage floors meet the minimums in the 2024 Ontario Building Code: 15 MPa and 32 MPa respectively.

New finishers learn on the slab alongside senior finishers before they lead a pour. On commercial jobs where the specification calls for field testing, slump, air content and concrete temperature are checked at the truck and cylinders are cast for strength tests using CSA A23.2 methods.

Insurance, WSIB Coverage and Industry Resources

We are licensed and insured, and a certificate of insurance is available on request before work starts. Ask for our WSIB clearance certificate too, or check our standing through the WSIB clearance lookup.

A clearance matters because the WSIB construction clearance policy can make the hiring party liable for an uncovered contractor. We follow placing and curing guidance from Concrete Ontario, and our terms are written down in our concrete workmanship warranty.

On your property

How We Treat Your Property

We protect your property while we work, keep you informed at each stage, and leave the site cleaner than we found it. Concrete work is messy by nature, so the habits below are planned into every job rather than left to chance.

Protection before the first pour

Plywood runways go over lawns and interlock along the wheelbarrow route. Siding, brick, doors and windows next to the pour are covered with poly so splatter never reaches them.

One point of contact

The project lead who measures your job is the person who schedules it and supervises the pour. You have one name and one phone number from quote to walkthrough.

Updates you can plan around

We confirm your start date ahead of time and call the day before the pour if weather changes the plan. You hear about delays from us, not from an empty driveway.

Cleanup and walkthrough

Truck chutes are washed out into a containment bin, never onto your lawn or into the storm drain. Debris is hauled away and we walk the finished job with you before we invoice.

Before any digging, we request free Ontario One Call locates so buried gas, hydro and cable lines are marked.

Materials

Suppliers and Materials We Rely On

Our concrete comes from local ready-mix plants such as CBM's London plant on Fanshawe Park Road East and Amrize London Ready Mix (formerly Lafarge). Before ordering, we confirm the plant holds current Concrete Ontario plant certification.

A short haul from a local plant keeps slump and air content where the mix design intended. Finishing products are chosen per job; the table lists products we typically specify, not exclusive suppliers.
