Concrete Contractor Serving London and Southwestern Ontario
From our base in south London, Concrete Surface Solutions sends crews across Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties every week. Most addresses we serve are within a 15 to 35 minute drive, close enough to come back the same evening to saw cut joints after a pour.
Homeowners in these towns hire our residential concrete services for driveways, patios and steps, while plant and plaza owners use our commercial concrete services for aprons, curbs and slabs. After 20+ years and 950+ jobs, we know which permit office handles which town and which soils need extra base.

Communities We Serve Around London
We serve London and six nearby communities with dedicated pages, plus the smaller villages around each one. The table shows the county each town sits in and the municipality that issues its building permits, which is not always the one people expect.
Dorchester, for example, is part of the Municipality of Thames Centre in Middlesex County, even though it sits halfway between London and Ingersoll. Komoka and Kilworth are both in Middlesex Centre, so one permit office covers them.

Middlesex County: Komoka, Kilworth, Strathroy, Dorchester, Ilderton and Lucan
Middlesex wraps around London on three sides, and its towns range from new subdivisions to working farms. West of the city, we pour first driveways and walkout patios for concrete work in Komoka and Kilworth, about about 25 minutes from the yard.
Farther west, concrete work in Strathroy often means long rural laneways and shop floors. East of London, concrete work in Dorchester is our closest run at about 15 minutes, with large lots that suit pool decks and detached garage slabs.
Also served: Ilderton, Lucan, Arva, Delaware, Mount Brydges, Thorndale.
Elgin County: St. Thomas, Aylmer and Port Stanley
South of London, Elgin County runs down to the Lake Erie shore. Concrete work in St. Thomas is about about 25 minutes away and leans toward front steps, porches and walkways on the city's older brick homes.
St. Thomas issues its own permits as a separated city, while Port Stanley, Union, Sparta and Belmont fall under the Municipality of Central Elgin. Aylmer is a separate town with its own building department.
Also served: Aylmer, Port Stanley, Belmont, Union, Sparta.
Oxford County: Woodstock, Ingersoll and Thamesford
East along Highway 401, Oxford County mixes industrial lands with established small-town streets. Concrete work in Ingersoll is about about 25 minutes out and covers both loading aprons and driveway replacements on older lots.
Concrete work in Woodstock, about about 35 minutes away, splits between business park slabs and decorative driveways in newer subdivisions. Each town issues its own building permits, with the county handling entrances onto county roads.
Also served: Beachville, Thamesford, Embro, Innerkip.

London Neighbourhoods We Work In
We work in every part of London, and the neighbourhood usually tells us what a job will involve before we arrive. Here are the areas where our crews pour most often.
- Byron
- Lambeth
- Hyde Park
- Masonville
- Old North
- Westmount
- Old South
- Wortley Village
- Oakridge
- Stoney Creek
- Sunningdale
- White Oaks
- Westminster
- Summerside
Older central streets. In Old North, Old South and Wortley Village, many homes predate 1950, with narrow driveways, tall front steps and mature tree roots under the walkways.
Postwar suburbs. Byron, Westmount, Oakridge and White Oaks are full of 1950s to 1980s homes whose original driveways and steps are reaching the end of their life.
Newer subdivisions. Hyde Park, Masonville, Sunningdale, Stoney Creek, Summerside and Lambeth, part of London since the 1993 annexation, call for patios, pads and upgrades to builder driveways.
Byron's slopes near Boler Mountain bring steeper driveways, where a broom finish across the grade gives tires and boots better grip in January. In Old South and Wortley Village, lots are tight, so we plan truck access and pump placement before the quote.
Wherever you live in the city, London's clay soils and heavy winter salting shape how we build. Our home page covers our work as concrete contractors in London, including the city's driveway width and permit rules.
Local rules
Permits Change From Town to Town
Every municipality issues its own building and road permits, so a driveway that is permit-free in one town can need approval in the next. We check the local rules before we quote, not after the forms are set.
In London, driveways can cover at most 50% of the lot frontage up to 8 m, decks over 0.61 m need a permit and retaining walls under 1 m are exempt, according to the city's permit guidance for homeowners. Other towns set their own zoning limits, so we never assume London's numbers apply in Strathroy or Woodstock.
What we check before quoting in any town:
- Building permits from the city or lower-tier municipality, such as Thames Centre for Dorchester or Middlesex Centre for Komoka.
- Road allowance work like curb cuts and boulevard sidewalks, which in London needs a Work Approval Permit filed at least 7 days ahead.
- County road entrances, which need county approval for new or widened rural driveways.
- Conservation authority rules for lots near the Thames in London, Dorchester, Ingersoll and Woodstock, regulated by the UTRCA under Section 28. St. Thomas falls under the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority instead.
- Utility locates through Ontario One Call, which are free and required everywhere in the province.
Permit timing matters most in spring, when building departments are busiest. If your job needs a permit or conservation authority approval, we build the review time into your start date and tell you which forms need the owner's signature.
